Tooth pain can derail your day fast. Whether it’s a dull throb or sharp, sudden pain, the most important step is to call a dentist promptly. If you can’t reach us during an urgent situation or your pain comes with fever, facial swelling, or trauma, dial 911. Our team provides emergency guidance and care by phone and in person.
Why Teeth Hurt
Toothaches have many causes: decay (a cavity), a cracked or leaking filling, gum infection, an abscessed tooth, or even a sinus flare. The right fix depends on an exam and X-rays—so the fastest relief starts with a focused, in-office evaluation.
Quick At-Home Steps (Temporary Relief Only)
- Rinse gently with lukewarm saltwater.
- Floss around the painful tooth to remove trapped food.
- Use OTC pain relievers as directed (don’t place aspirin on the gums).
- Apply a cold compress to the cheek in brief intervals.
These tips may reduce discomfort, but they don’t replace treatment—book a visit so we can stop the cause.
How We Find (and Fix) the Problem
At your appointment, we’ll review your symptoms, take necessary X-rays, and outline a plan for relief. Care may include one or more of the following, depending on what we find:
- Filling or crown for cavities or fractured teeth.
- Root canal therapy is used to clear infection and save your natural tooth when the nerve is inflamed or infected. (Hint: modern root canals are designed to relieve pain, not cause it.)
- Periodontal (gum) therapy is recommended if gum infection is driving the pain. We have options that can help protect teeth and improve comfort.
- Extraction if a tooth can’t be predictably restored; we’ll discuss replacement options when appropriate.
Advanced Tools that Support Comfort Care
We use proven techniques and technology to make treatment efficient and gentle—including approaches for gum disease and bacterial reduction when infection is involved.
